Liebster Award

I was nominated for a Liebster award this week by The Paperback Princess. I was honored by her nomination since she was the first book blog I started following and the first blog I found on my own, as opposed to through someone else's blog. The idea behind the Liebster award is to spread the love from one awesome blogger to another. Hopefully readers will find some new blogs to follow!

However, I'm only nominated...I've got to earn this bad boy now. The Liebster award has four parts: state 11 random facts about yourself, answer 11 questions about yourself that were given to you by your nominator, nominate people yourself, and give your nominees 11 questions to answer.

Here we go...

11 Random Facts About Me
1. This Friday my husband and I will attend our 12th prom together - all at the same school.
2. I've never diagrammed a sentence in my life (even though I'm an English teacher)!
3. I own as many books I haven't read as I do books I've read.
4. In my 20s I got married, had three kids, earned two degrees, bought a house and a mini van, and established my teaching career. (Yea, I'm pretty proud of the productivity of my 20s)
5. I love dogs and would have one for each member of my family if my house was bigger.
6. I don't get satire - very inconvenient for an English teacher.
7. I have two tattoos, both chosen for their words.
8. I've read the Bible completely at least twice, if not three times.
9. I don't wear make-up.
10. Besides reading, I like landscaping and DIY house projects.
11. My favorite color is blue - just about any shade.

Answers to The Paperback Princess's Questions
1. Austen or Bronte? Why?
Austen. I love her characters! And the six hour BBC version of Pride and Prejudice is just awesome!

2. What was the last translated book you read?
The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas

3. Where do you prefer to read?
In bed because I have comfy pillows and blankets. I like to be warm and comfy at all times.

4. Are you part of a book club? If not, would you ever want to be a part of one?
Technically I am. I am the supervisor for my high school's student book club, Reading Warriors. It is very hard to get them to decide on something to read together, so I'm not sure how I'd like an actual book club.

5. What is your earliest library memory?
My mom took us to the library every Monday evening for as long as I can remember. I don't remember not having my own library card.

6. What are your feelings on choose your own adventure books?
I loved them when I was in middle school. I liked that I could read it multiple times and have something different happen.

7. What book are you going to read next?
The Things They Carried, by Tim O'Brien. It's a classic taught at my school and on my TBR Pile reading challenge for 2014.

8.Do you abandon books? Why or why not?
I've only done so once. I usually feel once I've started a book I don't want to give up and waste the time I already put into it. Plus, I'm not overly picky, so many things others would put down, don't bother me.

9. If you read biographies, do you read mostly about men or women?
I've read so few biographies, I can't even answer. If I look at biographies I own, two of the three are on men. Memoirs though, I have mostly women.

10. Are you a library regular or a book store shopper?
Book store shopper...but recently I've been disciplined enough to know I need to use the library for books I know I don't absolutely needle am only mildly interested in.

11. If you could see anyone in concert, living or dead, who would it be?
The only band I've wanted to see in cancers, I've seen twice: Matchbox 20.

  1. Thank you! I loved reading some fun facts about you - especially the prom one. SO cute!

    1. There is a recently retired teacher who has attended Prom at my school 37 year consecutively. That's older than I am! Lol. So I keep telling him I'm going to break his record. Only 11 of our 12 are consecutive though.

  2. I'm really glad to hear you say you've never diagrammed a sentence! I often hear other homeschool moms talk about that, and I had no idea what they were talking about at first.

    1. Yep! I've been through public school, state college, and a private college, and have never diagrammed a sentence. I'm sure there's something to be said for it, but to me reading regularly is a much better teacher.

  3. Congratulations on your nomination! I've been nominated for two Liebster's now but haven't accepted either really because, although it sounds silly, it makes me all nervous being nominated because I liken them to those chain letters you used to get in text and stuff back in the day and they always made me think scary things would happen if I did not pass it on. That's not to say the Liebster Award is a negative on anything because I think it is a lovely gesture to shown and always enjoy reading the responses and such on other blogs.

So, after my silliness, on to your award and answers... You had a pretty darn productive 20's - go you! I liked hearing that you don't wear make up, that's very refreshing in a beauty obsessed society. And my bed is my favourite place to read too, I also like to read in the bath too however my bed will trump a bath any day.

Once again, congratulations, and thank you for introducing me to a new blogger - The Paperback Princess.
    Bits & Bobs

    1. Haha! I know what you mean. This is the second I was nominated for...the first time I hadn't seen it enough to get it and I think it caught me at a busy time where I couldn't sit and write it all out.

Don't be afraid next time! Would love to hear random facts about you :)

  4. It's totally like a blog chain letter BUT so convenient for blog content.

I totally remember the day you commented on my blog for the first time and I was like "someone that's not my mom reads my blog!" Super thrilling.

Obviously there's nothing better than the 1995 BBC production of P&P. Nothing. And I LOVE your library memory. I'm also super impressed by the productivity of your 20s and I'm wondering what I'm even doing with my time?!

    1. Hahaha! That's so funny! I found you because of something I googled, although I can't remember what.

There is a long story behind WHY my 20s ended up being so productive, so totally DO NOT compare yourself! Everyone's got their groove. I am spending my 30s more laid back and by the time I hit 40s it will be a complete lazy fest!

  5. Congratulations on being nominated for a Liebster Award. I recently won one and was over the moon. I'm so pleased to have come across a writing blog. My blog is a beauty & lifestyle blog; which delves into various avenues such as book reviews, fashion and recommendations. We're both on our way to getting our first 100 followers; I'm going to do a giveaway when I reach a 100. Are you planning on doing anything at all? I'm now following you on GFC. Please check out my blog and if you like what you see, come and follow me too :) xx

    1. I was thinking of doing a giveaway either at 100 followers or for my 2 year anniversary in July...maybe I'll do whichever comes first!

Will come check out your blog! Thanks for following!

  6. Replies
    1. I'll have pics all over FB tomorrow!

  7. In my 20s I got married got 3 degrees, had 2 kids and started my career as a reading specialist. Just wanted to write that out and see how I fared next to you. You beat me on the kid factor! lol

    1. And you beat me on the degree factor! Lol! Whew! How'd we pull all that off? Lol.

  8. Congrats on the award! I would also choose Austen over Bronte and have been going to the library for as long as I can remember :)

    1. Thanks :) Libraries were just magical for me as a kid.

  9. OMG congratulations on your nomination and thanks for mentioning my blog. You are the best.
I LOVE that you never diagrammed a sentence. I diagrammed hundreds in high school, I've written for over twenty-five years and I still don't get half of it. What the heck is a dangling-participle anyway.
I have a question and request for you and your vast audience of readers. No one reads as much as you guys so 'help.'

I need a comp for an idea I have.
I'm trudging through my mother's manuscript and wondering if I can do some sort of parallel/memoir/discovery thing. Anybody know of any similar projects?

Thanks all and again Jennine, congratulations. If I had you for English I would have a Pulitzer by now :)

  10. Hey - it only took me two weeks - LOL! I just posted my Liebster Award with questions answered, nominee's etc.....etc... Thank you Jennine....hope you see that I did finally see this!

    1. Haha! Yep! It came in my email along with this reply!
